Introduction to Edmond


      Edmond is 13 miles North of Oklahoma City.  The municipality is included in the "Top 100 Places to Live in 2007" list created by Relocate America. It was named "America's best small town" by Universal Publications of New York. Edmond is also well known for rodeos.

Edmond History


     Edmond was formerly known as "Summit" and was a watering location for the railroad. The first school house built in Oklahoma is located in the city. In the early 1880's the area was primarily prairie and home to bison and black bears. Occasionally, Indians hunted in the region. The city was quickly established during the great Oklahoma land run in 1889. The agriculture and trading based economy of Edmond was very dependent on the railroad.

  • National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum includes some of the best exhibits of western art and artifacts in the world.

  • The Edmond Cultural District features numerous noteworthy sculptures.

Edmond Activities


     Arcadia Lake provides opportunities for boating, swimming, camping, hiking and bird watching. The Arctic Edge Ice Arena is popular for ice skating and is utilized by hockey leagues. Residents and visitors enjoy the Frontier City theme park which includes roller coasters, gunfighter stunt shows and other types of entertainment. The nearby Remington Park features horse racing. Golf enthusiasts enjoy the Kickingbird Golf Club, Fairfax Golf Club and the Coffee Creek Golf Club which is included in the top 10 Oklahoma courses by Golf Digest.

Edmond Higher Education


     The city is home to the University of Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma Christian University.
